Walt Buchterkirchen
Drawing during childhood mirrored Walt Buchterkirchen's heavy interest in automobiles and aircraft. He studied drafting and worked as a draftsman while attending university. Though focused on avionics during his United States Air Force service, he frequently helped out on projects requiring presentation graphics.
His fine art training was obtained under the teaching of Walfrido Garcia in the San Francisco Bay Area during the eighties. The sea was the focus and it continues to be a central interest in his art to this day. With the advent of digital photography and moving to the Sierras, sunsets have become a key involvement. Walking the family corgi “Joey” in the evening provides ample opportunity to shoot sun and cloud.
During the early days of the U. S. Space Program, Walt was a payload engineer specializing in planetary reconnaissance. This activity awakened his interest in the wonders of the Universe. Seeing images from today’s space telescopes and planetary visitor/orbiter systems added fuel to his growing fire of artistic endeavor prompting his exploration in space art and spacescapes. In this area of work, Walt relies on his computer and the power of filter algorithms to transform thought to unimagined realms. His tireless study of these wonders provides constant inspiration to an unending appreciation of Creation.
"So many things to study, photograph, and paint; so little time. Sola Deo Gloria!"
